What yet another dripper? What does the Timemore Crystal Eye Dripper offer the coffee lover?
What we like
Timemore is slowly making its name in the coffee community. Quality appear to be a primary driver for them. What do we like about this dripper?
- While plastic, it has a quality feel and touch.
- Spefically designed drainage to aid coffee extraction down the outside of the dripper and the middle.
- If you have a coffee that needs a little more oomph, when making it as pour-over, this is the dripper for you—the ability to take a grind far finer than any other dripper we have used.
- Finally, a dripper that comes with some sample filters, following the example set by the AeroPress.
- Able to make 3 cups (around 750ml) of coffee.
- Can use Hario filters or theirs
What we are not so keen on
While on the whole, we feel this is an excellent addition to our offering there are a few things we are not so keen on:
- The handle feels like an afterthought. Yes, there are drippers that don’t have that even, but this one is not suited to the job, especially when you make 3 cups.
- A finer grind is almost required to get the most. This means for those fruiter coffees, the fruity flavours are hard to get at. In fact, with all our fruitier coffees, we have found the Hario and Chemex produced sweeter and fruitier brews.
Who is it for
If you do not have a dripper or you love Central and South American coffees, or coffees that have a heavier mouthfeel this is the dripper for you. It is also a great addition to those that love to brew more coffees. We have even tried using it with our Technivorm MoccaMaster KBGT, and we were impressed with the results.
